Orchid lovers & general gardeners alike have made this genus one of the most popular.
Comprising of some 70 species in many varieties and forms, this genus is primarily
found throughout the tropical regions of the Americas. Cattleya species are among the
easiest of all orchids to grow. Most are considerably tolerant of poor conditions and
neglect. These species do well in warm or intermediate conditions, in bright light, and
with some shade during the hottest parts of the year. They require an abundant amount
of water throughout the growing season except at maturity with new growths, then
watering should be reduced. These species require heavy feeding.
